Thank you for the question. Based on your photographs alone, I think that you will do well with tummy tuck surgery; any "lesser" procedure or noninvasive modality will likely leave you with an outcome that you will not be pleased with. Generally speaking, the “ideal” patient for tummy tuck surgery is one who has completed pregnancies, is psycho socially/emotionally/financially stable, has an excellent social support system surrounding him/her, is capable of arranging enough recovery time, does not smoke and who has reached a long-term stable weight. Although your concerns are understandable, assuming a carefully selected patient ( appropriate surgical candidate), carefully selected plastic surgeon (Board-certified plastic surgeon with an excellent safety record), expertise of a board certified anesthesiologist, and surgery performed in a fully accredited surgery facility, the risk of dying during tummy tuck surgery is very small. Of course, there are many risks associated with tummy tuck surgery; the majority of serious complications that may occur with tummy tuck surgery occur within the first 2 weeks. These may include deep venous thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, pneumonia, infection, bleeding, and even death. Fortunately, the potential for these types of major complications are very small, assuming careful selection of plastic surgeon, anesthesiologist, and fully accredited surgery facility. Again, careful selection of plastic surgeon will help minimize potential risks... Other types of complications that are more likely include superficial incision line healing problems ( wound healing problems), seromas, abdominal wall asymmetry, abnormal scarring, unsatisfactory cosmetic result… When the time is right, seek consultation with board-certified plastic surgeons who can demonstrate significant experience helping patients achieve the types of outcomes you would be pleased with. Then communicate your concerns, goals, questions carefully. After a careful consideration of pros/cons, you will be able to make an informed decision whether or not to proceed. Best wishes.
