Best solution for tummy tuck scar treatment from 3 weeks post op onwards, ScarAway or Medical tape?

Hello,In the first 8 to 12 weeks, the most important thing to do to positively effect scar appearance is to take away the skin tension that acts to open the incision. This is best accomplished with a porous, elastic tape like Hypafix (Amazon.com, $15 for two 10 yard rolls). Silicone tapes and silicone gels are not necessary at this point, and may never be required after the initial taping period. Best of luck!

Dear DublinGirl123,every plastic surgeon has his own postoperative protocol which he recommends to his patients. I would suggest you to discuss this with your plastic surgeon. I recommend my patient to use binder, retape the incision for the first 5 weeks after the surgery and one week later to start using Biocorneum.Daniel Barrett, MD

Thank you for your question I usually tell my patients to wait at least 8 weeks before applying  any scar gels or tapes, but every surgeon has different protocols. Take your PS's advise.

There are many treatments for the scar after a tummy tuck.  The scar tape relieves tension on the wound which helps with the scar healing.  Check with your plastic surgeon to see if he/she has an alternative to the skin tape.

There are many options available. Tape is widely used, topical silicone products are widely used. If you find the tape to be too unwieldy, ask your surgeon for a recommendation on one of the silicone products. I have my patients use Scar Guard since it is not only effective, but fairly easy to use. It goes on like nail polish. These products are more expensive than tape though.

Please consider contacting your board certified plastic surgeon to discuss your concerns and receive other recommendations. It is important for your surgeon to address all of your concerns during the entire process. Best of luck!
