I know I am not supposed to smoke cigarettes two weeks before (I don't at all). But I thought it was because of the tobacco/nicotine. So I have Rhinoplasty in 6 days and these past two weeks I have smoked marijuana 3 times. I don't get stoned, I just smoke a little to help me fall asleep or help headaches. It's hardly anything but it helps.I get headaches extremely frequently and I usually take Excedrin for them but I haven't been able to. I just want to make sure it won't affect my rhinoplasty?
Answer: Marijuana before Rhinoplasty? Safety should always be the primary concern in any procedure. The goal of all plastic surgeons that perform rhinoplasties is to improve the appearance with minimal side effects or problems. Smoking anything may increase the risks of complications with a surgical procedure like a rhinoplasty. This includes "vaping". Smokers have a significantly higher rate of delayed healing, infection, opening of the incisions, necrosis or loss of the facial skin that is elevated and the underlying tissue, poor scarring, and anesthesia problems. Be honest with your plastic surgeon who should be certified by the American Board of American Plastic Surgery and ideally a member of The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) or a facial plastic surgeon (otolaryngologist) about your exposure to smoke and follow all of her or his instructions. Remember that you are a participant in your own care. Robert Singer, MD FACS La Jolla, California

Answer: Marijuana before rhinoplasty? Thank you for the question. You should absolutely consult with your physician about your smoking habits in order to obtain the most reliable and individualized medical advice. Most specialists recommend abstaining from smoking for 2-3 weeks before a rhinoplasty, while others may insist on a full month or two. Smoking will cause irritation and restrict the blood flow to your healing areas, possibly causing complications during the recovery period. In addition, you should also make sure to avoid smoking for at least two weeks after surgery as it may interfere with your healing process. Smoking after surgery may restrict the flow of blood to the healing areas, exacerbate swelling, and prolong recovery. Of course, as a physician, I would advise you to quit smoking altogether due to a variety of health risks associated with it. An in-person exam with a board-certified plastic surgeon would be the best way to assess your needs and obtain expert medical advice. Best of luck!

Answer: Marijuana and Excedrin before rhinoplasty? It's always best to check with your Operative surgeon prior to the surgery, since they are the ones that are performing your surgery. Smoking any type of product can have deleterious effects on healing process after cosmetic surgery due to nicotine and carbon monoxide. You may stand a higher risk of infection. Taking Excedrin which has aspirin in it can lead to nosebleeds which can be rather significant after a rhinoplasty procedure.

Answer: Marijuana before Rhinoplasty I would not recommend the smoking of any substance prior to a rhinoplasty procedure due to the fact that smoking thins out the nasal mucosa and can lead to potential bleeding and other serious complications.Certainly, if you are planning on the hope of an excellent result, I would refrain from smoking of any kind, including vaping at least 3 weeks prior to surgery.
