I keep reading if you have a muscle disorder or autoimmune disease you should not get Botox or Dysport. Can someone explain to me why? If it stays local in the muscle being treated, how could it or would it interact with any underlying condition? Does this mean it spreads beyond injection site?

Answer: Botox and Autoimmune Disease Botulinum toxin is used to reduce fine lines and wrinkles by paralyzing the underlying muscles temporarily. This prevents the targeted muscles from contracting. If you have certain auto-immune or muscle disorders, it isn't recommended unless your physician has approved it based on your specific diagnosis.

Answer: Botox relative contraindications Usage of Botulinum Toxins for aesthetic treatment in patients with autoimmune or genetic muscular disorders is not contraindicated for it is the "dose that makes a poison" . The problem is rather with relatively unpredictable results and sometimes undesirable outcomes. But once again a prudent and cautious usage may be beneficial. Hope this helped, Dr. Daniyar
