How soon after Accutane you can have a rhinoplasty?

Question

I used to stAy on Accutane 20mg daily for 4 months (from April 2015)..then i slowly lower the dose in the last month (20mg every 4/5 says) & I completely stop It on May 2016. I plan to have a Rhinoplasty in middle of March 2017 so i have abt 8 months off Accutane to the day i get my nose done).but i still notice that my skin get irritated easily. I sweel n bruised right away when my skin get cut.Am i safe to have a Sline nose job under 4 hours sugery. does Accutane effect my Rhinoplasty anyway?

It is normally recommended that one wait at least 6 months after finishing accutane treatment before having rhinoplasty. You should check with your dermatologist and plastic surgeon regarding specific recommendations in your case.

Your dermatologist would be the best specialist to address your concern. Many suggest a full year off Accutane before considering elective facial plastic surgery. That said, we have operated as early as 7 months after stopping Accutane and have not noticed issues with healing or scarring. Hope this helps. Dr Joseph

It is acceptable to undergo rhinoplasty several months after being off Accutane.   A closed rhinoplasty  can accomplish making only the required changes to the nose with all of the incisions placed on the inside  of the nose.  In our practice, the procedure would take between 1-1/2-2 hours.

Thank you for your question.  I would seek a board certified plastic surgeon in your area and be sure to let them know you have been on Accutane.  It is best to wait six months to one year after discontinuing Accutane before doing an elective surgery.
