What is a realistic expectation for my mixed race rhinoplasty? (Photo)

Question

I'm a mixed race (Caucasian/African Latina) female planning on undergoing rhinoplasty this year. I have a broad bridge and bulbous tip and my profile is straight. I would like a narrower bridge, a smaller, more defined tip, and overall more delicate nose that compliments my facial features. I have a few variations I think would suit me, but not sure what type of result is achievable. I have some consultations scheduled soon and want to have realistic expectations.

A rhinoplasty specialist will be able to comprehensively address the issues you have with your nose. While there are a variety of approaches and techniques employed by various surgeons, it is up to you to do your due diligence to find a rhinoplasty specialist in order to achieve the best results possible. Looking at computer-morphed images with your surgeon during consultation will give you a good idea of what is possible, and also give you a great chance to convey to your surgeon what you envision.

Hello,Thanks for your question. There are things that can be done to achieve your goals. Your bridge may need some augmentation to make it seem more streamlined from the front, as well as bone repositioning by nasal bone osteotomies. Your tip would need to be repositioned and narrowed. You have something known as malposition of the lower lateral cartilages. This makes your nasal tip seem bulbous. Repair of this plus addition of a cartilage tip graft will make your tip more finessed. It would also help to inset your tip closer to your face. I would recommend that you consult with a rhinoplasty specialist who specializes in ethnic rhinoplasty. For instance, my rhinoplasty practice here in Denver, is 70% ethnic rhinoplasty. A rhinoplasty procedure can accomplish narrowing the bulbous tip with suture techniques and a conservative cartilage removal, however thick skin will be a significant impediment to seeing refinement in that area.  The bridge line can be narrowed with osteotomies.  Digital computer imaging can be performed in the office setting to give patient's an idea what their new nose would look like upon their facial features.  For more information, many examples  of narrowing a wide nose with rhinoplasty, please see the link and the video below
