I'm 12 days post-op after neck lift. Behind my one ear is not bad, but the other one has ropelike scars that I can't see going away on their own. Thank goodness I grew my hair out months before the surgery. My surgeon said not to bother growing my hair out but I'm so glad I did. This scar pretty much assures me that I won't be wearing really short hair again any time soon if ever. What are my options? Can a scar like this be removed by excision?
Answer: Thick scar after necklift It appears like you are developing a hypertrophic scar after your procedure. This requires attention early! Now is the time when your facelift surgeon can improve this with a local injection to decrease the scar production. If this continues to grow, you may even have a keloid formation

Answer: Injection therapy combined with beam laser to help reduce appearance of the scars Plastic surgery scars require attention after surgery so that they remain cosmetically-appealing and barely noticeable. In our office, we use a protocol for scars that minimizes their activity in the 6-8 weeks after surgery. If you have late plastic surgery scars, you may also require laser and RF therapy to help reduce the longterm effects of the scarring. Keloids, hypertrophic scars, widened scars, red scars, and hyperpigmented scars all require scar modulation with topical creams followed by lasers and RF therapy. Topical skincare should be directed to a specific need, whether for pigmentation or hypertrophy and our office can guide you through the process to obtain the correct Plato’s Scar cream or Melarase cream for hypertrophy and discoloration. In terms of lasers, we would employ the vbeam laser for redness, Venus Viva RF, PRP microneedling, chemical peels, and Morpheus 8, fractional erbium, or fractional co2. All of these have their individual benefits. Most of all, we recommend you visit a solid plastic surgeon who understands surgical scar revision, laser therapy, and RF therapy for scars. Answer: Can this be fixed? Twelve days is really to early for a decision on revision. However, if needed this would require a relatively straightforward scar revision once the tissues have relaxed and are under minimal tension. This would improved the width and the raised aspect of your incision. Don't get discouraged. This can be revised if necessary. Good luck and take care.

Answer: Too early to worry! Be patient! that scar will likely be red, raised, and angry looking for up to 6 weeks after the procedure. There is an over-the-counter scar gel with silicone and steroid in it that may help the scar flatten out sooner. Be sure to ask your surgeon if he/she is ok with that, and don't miss your follow-up appointments!
