My patients undergo a dressing change on post-op day 1, and the bulkier dressing is replaced with the facial garment/chin support that you're referring to. I have my patients wear that for 1 week, being able to remove it for showers and for short periods of time during the day. Definitely wear it while sleeping. Sutures are removed at 7-10 days and the garment is discontinued. I hope that helped.
In our practice, we recommend it for 12 hours a day for 7 days. Each surgeon has his or her own protocol that should be followed by their patients, since surgeons' techniques and surgeries are not all the same.
After a facelift, I generally have the patient wear a chin strip from the 2nd postoperative day to the 7th postoperative day. For the first two days, I place a compressive dressing, which is removed on postop day one and replaced with a lighter dressing. Although I have not seen much utility in the use of a strap beyond a week, some patients feel more comfortable wearing it at night for several weeks. This protocol is variable from surgeon to surgeon.
There are many different manoeuvres that come under the label of neck lift. Your best bet would be to follow your own surgeon's postop instructions.
I like to recommend the strap for one week after the surgery. The second week after surgery I ask it to be worn while in the housealso, avoid any quick head or neck jerking movements in this time as it can hinder the healing face lift flaps. Regards
The answer to this question will vary a little bit depending on your surgeon and exactly what is done in the neck itself. The benefit to wearing the chin strap is that it actually shortens the recovery by helping to alleviate bruising/swelling a little faster. Despite the annoyance, it also helps everything to heal down nice and tight/smooth--so it is important. I typically will ask my patients to try to wear the chin strap for at least 2 weeks all the time then when at home/at night for another week or 2. Most patients are able to tolerate it fairly easily once they know the benefit! Good luck!
I have my patients wear their surgical dressing/wrap for one week non-stop. Then, they begin using a smaller, easily removable chin strap for another 3 weeks. This one can be taken off to go to work or shower, but should be worn when at home and sleeping.
Best to ask your operative chosen surgeon. In my practice only a few days but each of us has our own opinions...
Whether or not you should wear a chin strap and how long it should be worn depends upon many factors and you should rely on the advice of your surgeon. He or she is the only one who can give you a proper recommendation. Some surgeons have their patients wear them, some don't. Personally I am not a big fan of chin straps as I feel that neck compression can worsen the swelling the the face and cheeks even though it may help decrease the swelling in the neck. Best wishes.
This is definitely a question Iwould ask you plastic surgeon as everyone has a different opinion and a reasonfor that opinion. Check with you plastic surgeon for specifics. Best wishes, Dean Vistnes.
When I perform a PURE neck lift, my incisions are placed under the chin and behind the ears. Sometimes it is necessary to perform a lower face lift in conjunction with a neck lift. This is particularly true in cases where there is a particular redundnacy of skin. If this is the...
A bald man does represent challenges when performing a facelift procedure. Meticulously performed surgery and closure of the of the incisions can still allow the surgery to proceed. For many before and after examples of face/neck lifts, please see the link and the video below
The diagnosis of protruding salivary glands should, ideally, be diagnosed prior to performing a neck lift and discussed with the patient. I routinely discuss this with my patients and if desired the gland is partially removed to provide a better neck contour. The procedure is safe...
