Please tell me how to care for my belly button post op.

Question

I am noticing women are caring for their belly button, I was not given any instruction. I haven't seen my surgeon since day of ,and wont be seeing him for a few weeks. So far there is tape left from surgery and I have had several showers and am 7 days post op. thank you

By 7 days after the surgery the tapes should be off.  It would require nothing more than normal showering and keeping the area clean and dry.

I recommend calling your plastic surgeon's office for directions. For my patients, I have them clean with dilute peroxide with water then use antibiotic ointment. After drains are removed they can clean in the shower with doap and water.

Your plastic surgeons office should be able to give you verbal instructions over the phone and I highly recommend you call them for their protocol. In my office I have the patients apply antibiotic ointment to the belly button daily and cover with gauze for the first 3 weeks.

Ihave my patients clean the navel was soap and water. A small cotton applicator can be gently insinuated to clean up the depths. You should get specific instructions however from your own surgeon.

I have everybody shower the day after surgery and every day there after. To clean the belly button, use gentle soap and water and if need very gently use a Q-tip to clean inside.
