Rhinoplasty swelling, bridge has gone down now after 2 and a half months post but tip apparently still swollen?

Question

I have rhinoplasty about 2 and a half months ago and it went swimmingly well, but now that my bridge has lost all its swelling and my tip is still swollen my nose is looking very “ski slopey” and it wasn’t this way after surgery or even a month after Would you say that as my tip swelling depletes it will reduce the slope look? my doctor has said so but I just wanted to get another opinion as it’s quite defined at the moment and it’s worrying me Thanks

Dear Lucy. Thank you for your question. Swelling is notorious after rhinoplasty and you will see changes over time which will be more dramatic initially but can extend over months or perhaps years and so it would be entirely reasonable to wait for the tip swelling to settle as your doctor has suggested.

Hi Lucy.
The tip is usually the last part of the nose to have its swelling go down after a rhinoplasty. Sometimes, this can take up to one or two years, depending on the amount of internal scarring as well as skin thickness. On certain occasions, judicious steroid injection into the swollen area may be considered to reduce the degree of internal scarring/swelling. At two and a half months however, I would give it more time, and continue regular follow up with your surgeon.

Hi,It is normal for the tip t be swollen after a rhinoplasty, and in fact it is the last area to loose swelling. This swelling can take up to 12 months or more to resolve depending on your skin type, and during that period the shape of the nose will change.I would suggest waiting until swelling has fully resolved until yuo can assess the final shape and result.Jeremy Hunt

What your surgeon has told you sounds about right to me. Be patient. A new nose takes a lot of getting used to... especially learning to let go of your long standing dislike of your nose.

With any nasal surgery, the name of the game is patience. At one week, we would expect you to have quite a bit of swelling and bruising still noticeable and may have trouble breathing out of one or both nostrils. By the end of two weeks, typically, you will still be swollen but look more like you have a bad cold, rather than post surgical. Swelling can take up to a year to be completely gone, however, by 9 weeks you will look very good and should see big difference from your pre-op pics.

Thank you for your question. Typically, the initial swelling after nose surgery subsides within two to three weeks.  However, residual swelling, especially in the tip of the nose, can take about a year to resolve as the contour refines. Swelling can also vary through the day, being more prominent in the morning. Try and be patient as your nose will continue to heal over the next several months. Be sure to follow up with your surgeon if you still have concerns.
