I'm currently 5'5 119lbs BMI 20. Naturally it's hard for me to gain weight just due to genetics. I'm not sure if I should for down the skinny BBL path or just get butt implants. Although i know they are very different, i do have breast implants so I am kind of aware of what to expect. What would be the best procedure for me?

Answer: Skinny BBL versus gluteal implants Having had breast implants does not give you any idea of what it’s like to have gluteal implants. they are a completely different procedure. Gluteal implants are placed intramuscularly and are solid. You’ll be sitting on your implants every time you sit for the rest of your life. Almost every plastic surgeon in the United States is happy to offer breast implants but very few of them offer gluteal implants. why do you think most plastic surgeons are happy to do almost every listed cosmetic surgery procedure except gluteal implants? It certainly helps if you choose a provider who has an abundance of experience or specializes in gluteal implants and there are a handful of those providers in the country. Most people have enough fat to get a pretty decent fat transfer result but it often requires Liposuction of their entire body and that is some thing you have to ask yourself if you willing to go through. this may require Liposuction of the entire torso and extremities. slim people typically don’t need the same volumes to have a good impact as those who are heavier. You’ll find that plastic surgeons are either in the pro BBL or pro implant category. There are very few plastic surgeons who do both. The BBL camp is quite large compared to the implant group. If gluteal implants was an easy straightforward procedure must plastic surgeons would be offering it. Unfortunately it’s not. It can be done and it can deliver good results but it can also cause problems including disfigurement. To get well educated with the two options if you’re seriously considering implants is to have in person consultations with plastic surgeons who have extensive experience with both procedures. there’s usually one or two providers who are into implants who respond on real self and hopefully they will see your post and chime in to give you their two cents. Providers who are pro implants sometimes speak poorly of the bbl why the BBL is not a good procedure. While you did include two good pictures you didn’t include a picture showing your backside and we typically need to see your body from your neck to your knees to make a good assessment. There’s also something to be said about not having surgery especially when you have a great looking body like your own. In the end you also have to ask yourself how much of a change you’re looking to obtain. BBL results are very provider dependent and if you choose that route finding a highly experienced and talented provider is really really important as well. Best, Mats Hagstrom MD
