I keep reading "we recommend" a compression garment for "best results". But specifically what does a compression garment do, and why is it necessary, and are there studies that demonstrate this?
Answer: Post Operative Instructions Thank you for your question! Compression garments after certain procedures are very important and are used for a variety of reasons. The compression garment will help control your postoperative swelling. Although you will still have normal postop swelling, the compression garment will help keep it under control and will also help the swelling resolve sooner. Also, when using any type of energy (radiofrequency energy here), it stimulates the body to create fluid where the heat is applied. Sometimes, if there is some “blank space” in the tissues the fluid will accumulate here causing a seroma (a pocket of fluid) that may have to be drained in the office. Compression garments to this area can help prevent formation of seromas as well as help with swelling. Be sure to consult with a board-certified plastic surgeon to get all of the information about this procedure. Good luck!
