I’m a female height 5.6 185 pounds I had a lumbar Fusion done on my lower back in 2017 I want to get a bbl done February 22 2023 I have hard wear in my lower back from a lumbar fusion
Answer: BBL candidate Dear Martrice, it is hard to tell for sure without an examination. The history of lumbar fusion is not a contraindication for BBL surgery. If you are considering surgery, I would suggest you consult a board-certified plastic surgeon. Only after a thorough examination, you will get more information and recommendations. Answer: BBL Hi, thank you for sharing your question. Lumbar fusion is not a contradiction to having BBL surgery however, an evaluation in person will be your best guide to determine if this is the best surgery for you.

Answer: Can have a Brazilian Butt Lift done if I had a lumbar fusion done 5 years ago? Hello @Martrice, thank you for your question. It is possible for some conditions to allow surgical procedures to be performed, however, in order to determine if they are suitable, a medical examination and assessment appointment must be scheduled. To obtain more information and recommendations, it is best to consult one or more board-certified plastic surgeons. Best wishes! Alan Gonzalez MD, FACS. Answer: Getting a BBL Individuals considering getting a BBL should first and foremost get a quality assessment to understand their candidacy for the procedure. Secondly individuals considering the BBL procedure should also put in a solid effort to find the most talented and experienced provider for the procedure. You can accomplish both of these by having multiple in person consultations with local board-certified plastic surgeons in your community. A BBL is both Liposuction and fat transfer done at the same time. You need to be assessed regarding both liposuction results and fat transfer results. I suggest patients schedule at least five in person consultations with local board-certified plastic surgeons before considering having this permanent and irreversible operation. During each consultation ask each provider to open up their portfolio and show you their entire collection of before and after pictures. Ask providers to only show you pictures of previous patient who had similar body characteristics to your own. Take pictures of your own body the same way plastic surgeons take before and after pictures. Bring printed copies of pictures of yourself during each consultation and use those as a reference. There’s no point in seeing results based on individuals who had a different candidacy for the procedure than your own. Ask providers to show you examples of excellent outcomes, average outcomes and outcomes that didn’t turn out as well as they had hoped for. ask providers what their revision rate and revision policy is. For reference an experience provider should have no difficulty showing you at least 50 set of before and after pictures. Look very carefully at all aspects of the after pictures reviewing all areas treated with Liposuction to make sure there are no skin contour irregularities anywhere. ask the provider to review the pictures with you and ask them exactly what areas were treated with Liposuction and what areas were not treated. look carefully at transition zones between treated and untreated areas to make sure that they look completely natural. Delivering consistent quality Liposuction and fat transfer results is more difficult than most people believe. Being board-certified in plastic surgery with an overall good reputation and years of experience does not guarantee that somebody has mastered this procedure. There are a substantial number of well intending well trained board-certified plastic surgeons who are not particularly good at either Liposuction or fat transfer. Mastering this procedure takes years of dedicated experience with a total commitment of mastering the operation. Unfortunately some providers do not recognize how long or steep the learning curve is for mastering body contouring using liposuction and fat transfer. it is unfortunately seen by some providers as a simplistic procedure that does not require years of dedicated learning. The ability to make accurate assessments and then deliver predictable results as shown by previous before and after pictures of previous patients who have similar candidacies, on a regular basis, is more difficult than most people believe. the number of plastic surgeons who can do this well consistently is relatively small. For this reason patients should be very selective of who they choose for this procedure, The importance of properly vetting plastic surgeons especially reviewing high numbers of before and after pictures of previous patients who have very similar body characteristics to your own cannot be overstated. When in doubt slow down and schedule more consultations. I do not recommend patient have virtual consultations and I highly recommend people avoided traveling long distances for any elective surgical procedure especially the BBL. During each consultation your medical history should be reviewed as part of a complex thorough consultation. At that time your surgeon will tell you what their thoughts are about doing the procedure based on your previous spine surgery. It should’ve been discussed during your consultation if you had one. If not your consultation was not done appropriately. Best, Mats Hagstrom MD
