CoolSculpting on double chin? Questions & concerns

It is best to consult with a local physician to decide if you have enough fat in the area to treat. 1 treatment will give you results, they will be seen approximately 3 months after the treatment. There can be some discomfort in the chin area. Some people experience a sensation similar to a head freeze, others have had a mild headache after, and some have no problem at all. You can expect some redness and swelling after the procedure. The color is usually gone within a few hours, but the swelling can last up to a couple weeks. You may also notice some numbness in the area. CoolSculpting permanently reduces 25-30% of the fat in the treatment area. Good luck!

We offer the CoolMini as a non-surgical alternative to liposuction for the right candidate.  For optimal results, 2 treatments are generally required. The treatments are separated by 4-6 weeks. Treatments are planned using templates of the CoolMini applicator. For fat localized to the sub mental chin, a single applicator per session may be required.  If there is significant fat more laterally in the neck, 2 or 3 overlapping applicators may be required to produce the optimal result.  We also offer Kybella and often use the two to develop customized a non-invasive alternative to surgical options.I would visit with a board certified plastic surgeon in your area who offers all these options to discuss what is best for you.

CoolSculpting is a great treatment for the double chin!  It really does do well for this and has a huge benefit.  The only thing about it is that if you don't have too much, it may not work.  For those situations I recommend Kybella, which works great there.  

Whatever the case, there is no reason to live with a chin you don't like now with two great new treatments available.  There should be no down time with CoolSculpting, by the way, but Kybella definitely has about 4-7 days of down time.  Good luck!

Hi and thanks for your question! Cool Mini is very effective to reduce subcutaneous fat under the chin. However, and experienced provider needs to assess you to see if you're a good candidate and if this would help you achieve the results you are looking for. If part of your concern involved loose skin you may need something more geared for skin tightening, such as Ultherapy. Also, you may need more definition in your chin and jawline, as this is often part of why we see less definition and structure in the lower face and neck. CoolSculpting is a highly effective treatment for the excess fat under the chin (submental area).  I would recommend a consultation with a CoolSculpting specialist where a treatment plan can be customized and tailored to suit your individual needs.  Sometimes one treatment is enough, however you can be re-assessed after your initial treatment to evaluate if a second treatment would be needed.  Side effects are usually mild with some swelling and bruising, however there is no down-time with this treatment.  The effects of CoolSculpting are permanent.  Best of luck!

Soolsculpting has developed an incredible applicator called the CoolMini.  It is just the right size to fit comfortably in the submental(under chin) region and presents excellent results.  We offer free consultations for prospective patients who are interested in Coolsculpting.  During the evaluation, the nurse can take an in person look to see and feel if there is enough fat to treat.  The majority of clients who are treating under the chin will need 2-3 treatments.  But, even one treatment will permanently reduce the fat by 20-25%.  For some individuals, this is enough to present the results they hope for.  It is hard to say without seeing someone in person. The procedure is not painful, just a little bit uncomfortable,  as it is an unusual sensation to have suction under the chin.  The cold sensation during the first ten minutes of freezing is also slightly uncomfortable as this is a sensitive area. As for the post treatment side effects, there is usually some temporary mild swelling(about 2 weeks), slight bruising, and a numb sensation that lasts for about a month. Full results are seen after 90 days.
For those who do not have enough fat to treat with CoolSculpting, but do have a slight double chin, we would recommend Kybella, which is injected under the chin and dissolves the fat away permanently. The area is numbed, and then injected multiple times.  As the kybella (deoxycholic acid) begns to activate, there is a strong and uncomfortable burning sensation.  Post treatment, there is quite a large amount of swelling that usually prompts patients to avoid pubic interaction for a few days or possibly a week.  
We have performed thousands of both procedures with great success, and would strongly suggest that you schedule a consultation and see what the best option is for you.

For the submental region Coolsculpt mini is an amazing treatment.  The treatment is overall comfortable.  Afterwards you can and likely will have swelling.  Also possible tingling, bruising.  It is a permanent reduction in fat cells in the area of treatment. Depending on your goals and expectation you may be happy with the reduction that occurs after one treatment.  Please go to a expert physician for an in person consultation.

CoolSculpting mini is a great choice for people who want to achieve a slimmer neckline.  To answer your question specifically, I would have to see a picture of your chin and neck.  That being said, you would probably notice modest improvements after 1 treatment, but I usually recommend that patients plan on having 2-3 for optimal results.  Some swelling and tenderness is common after CoolSculpting.

Dear velvetrose512:  Fat in the submental area can be improved permanently with CoolMini or Kybella. For some patients, treatment is more precisely delivered with less cost using Kybella, but the CoolMini can be perfect for certain individuals with fat localized to the midline. Both the cool-mini and Kybella are very effective at treating the fat under the chin and are permanent.  If you have a small amount of fat it sounds like Kybella might be the better option for you.  Please consult an expert.  Best, Dr. Green
