I am well aware liposuction is NOT a weight loss procedure, however, if I have 5 liters removed from my legs (and 3 liters is fat, 2 liters fluids), will that result in at least a 3-5 lb weight loss AFTER swelling subsides if I maintain healthy eating/exercise throughout my healing journey?
Answer: Weight loss If you have five liters of fat removed you could see a three to five pound weight reduction once you are healed and swelling is resolved. Many times liposuction motivates patients to eat healthier and keep a regular exercise regime in order to maintain their beautiful results.

Answer: Weight lost with 5 liters liposuction Hi SM8778, Thank you for your question. As you have correctly pointed out, liposuction is not a great procedure for 'weight loss,' and we tell our patients that this is more an 'inches lost' procedure. Predicting the actual amount of weight loss is challenging given the many factors at play, however, based on our experience with our patients and 5 liter reductions, a 3-5 pound weight loss after this type of procedure is a very realistic goal. You are also correct that maintaining your results with a reasonable diet and exercise program post-operatively will be important. I wish you the best of luck! Sincerely,Dr. Smith

Answer: Weight loss/Liposuction Thanks so much for your inquire, Removing 5 liters of fat and fluids (with 3 liters being fat) through liposuction will likely result in a small but noticeable weight loss. While liposuction isn’t for overall weight loss, it does result in a reduction in fat cells, and a few pounds of weight loss could be noticeable, especially in targeted areas like the legs. Just remember that the biggest impact is often in contour and shape rather than on the scale. Fluid retention post-liposuction is common, and it can take weeks or even months for the swelling to fully subside. Once the body heals and the excess fluids are reabsorbed, the weight loss from fat removal will become more apparent. Sincerely, Dr. Emmanuel Mallol

Answer: The Weight of Fat Each liter of fat weighs about 2 lbs. So that’s around 6 lbs if 3 liters of fat is removed. It may take a 3-4 weeks for some of the weight loss to show up on a scale.
