What is the best filler for tear troughs? (Photo)

Question

Would like to know best filler for tear troughs. Have had restylane under eyes previously (last time was 3 years ago). One eye still looks fine. One looks puffy. Not sure if overfilled with old product or needs further filler.

Hi and thank you for your questions and providing a photo. Technique and depth of placing fillers are key in achieving natural results. I actually prefer to use  Restylane for the delicate area under the eyes as it has the right consistency. But I place the filler deep. It would be best to consult an experienced practitioner in person, so he/she can assess the area and recommend the best treatment option for you. If it is the filler causing the puffiness on the right side, you may need to have it dissolved before trying again.

Fillers like Belotero, Volbella, and Restylane Silk are good for improving under the eyes, but keep in mind that a combination approach will give the most improvement. My patients try to get non-surgical treatments to avoid surgery, so we use fillers, lasers, microneedling/PRP and stem cells. This is a great question.  It is important to address the entire face when attempting to correct a specific area of the face.  It may be necessary to augment your midface as well as your "tear-troughs" to get a complete corrections and natural result.  Tear-troughs are one of the most difficult areas of the face to inject well.  Swelling can be significant and last from days to weeks.  It is important to choose a very experienced injector that does this type of procedure often.  You may also consider PDO threads in conjunction with filler to get a beautiful result.

Thank you for your question. In the UK the preferred under eye filler is Teosyal  Redefine 2. There are no surprises with this filler as it is very fine and you can build up the tear trough deformity slowly and with accuracy. A common error by practitioners is to leave under eye filler too superficial, so that in a few months it can form a blob or swelling like appearance on the skin. This change can be triggered by many things including having a cold or being unwell. I hope my answer helps!!

It is a very thin, smooth filler, perfect for the delicate skin under eyes.  It is hard to tell looking at the photos provided if there is swelling present or remaining filler.  Follow up with your provider to discuss concerns. Thanks for your question and your photo.  I personally like using Restylane. I feel it's properties are perfect for laying down right on top of the orbital bone and giving the boost needed in this area. Do your homework and find an  experienced and well trained physician injector to treat this area for you as it is NOT a task for a novice injector. Best of luck to you.

I like Juvederm Volbella.  It has an anesthetic and doesn't cause swelling.  I am not sure what is available in your country, however.  Good luck !

Even though Restylane can be used in a tear trough area, it frequently results in the formation of a bag with bluish discoloration. It is for those reasons that I recommend that the patients have fat grafting to the area which produces natural and permanent results with no overcorrection required.
