Breast augmentation, nerve regeneration causing burning pain. Need suggestions for ways to ease the pain

Question

I understand that the burning pain I feel around my breasts (currently two weeks post op) is signs of nerve regeneration, is a good sign and will pass in time. But I have to go to work every day, and the pain is debilitating, and pain medication does nothing for it. Just wearing clothes hurts. Had it for one week and it doesn't seem to be improving. Can anyone suggest any method to ease this pain so that I can get some sleep and move about without feeling constant pain? I have no other negative symptoms.

Nerve pain is very common after a procedure. A small dose of Gabapentin can be prescribed to help ease the nerves. However, please speak with your surgeon as he/she may different post op protocols to manage pain.Regards,

Hi there, Thank you for your question, I am sorry to hear that you having some difficulties with pain control after surgery. Its not unusual for nerve related pain, called neuropathic pain, as small severed branches regenerate. Mostly, with small nerve branches such as these they settle and a treatment to bind over the time helps. These include anti-inflammatory medications, neural specific pain relief like gabapentin ( often second line treatment ) and of course biofeedback with touching and massaging the sites. The first line therapy for nerve related pain is an anti-inflammatory medication such as ibuprofen or naproxen.  Next I use Gabapentin.  If that doesn't work I would use Lyrica.

I am very sorry to hear that you're suffering from nipple hypersensitivity half-year breast augmentation.  Fortunately it will resolve with time usually a few weeks.  Vascular plastic surgeon for a prescription for Neurontin or gabapentin which may help reduce the pain.

I am sorry to hear of your experience with these burning pains. These are called neuropathic pains and are quite common when nerves are stretched to accommodate the size  of an underlying breast implant. In my practice, I have had good success using nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. Should those not be effective, if the region of the pain can be localized, I have placed depository steroids such as triamcinolone with long-acting numbing medicines such as Marcaine with great success. This just requires the localization of the nerve with trial and error using short-acting numbing medicines such as lidocaine. Your plastic surgeon will be your best resource in providing you with treatment options in this regard. Best of luck.
