Hematoma removal breast augmentation. Is it acceptable to remove implant wash out tissues and put it back in? (photo)

If you have a hematoma the sooner the blood is removed and the pocket washed out the better. Blood is a good medium for bacteria to grow and you could get an infection

Thank you for sharing your question and photographs and I am sorry to hear of your hematoma.  Whether diagnosed clinically or with an ultrasound it is imperative to remove the hematoma as quickly as possible to avoid infection and tissue inflammation.  The same implant can be washed and reused. Hope this helps. 

The sooner a haematoma is removed the better. It is not unusual during this op to remove, wash out and replace the implant. Contact your PS again.

It is appropriate to evacuate the hematoma, vigorously wash out the breast pocket and the surface of the implant, use a drain in the breast pocket( in my practice I always do this) and replace the same implant if possible.  This may not be possible if there were to be fluid in the breast pocket that is not hematoma ( such as seroma and suspected infection).  I would always advise this sooner than later, usually several days at the most after the problem is identified.Good luck to you.Frank Rigger M.D.  Tampa Plastic Surgeon
