I'm 5 weeks post op and my incisions are red and getting lumpy. Would it be ok to use bio oil directly on the incision? I have to wear tape on them for 3 months and change them every three days. They seem to be healing nicely
Answer: Scar management after breast augmentation Every surgeon will have their own protocol for scar management after breast augmentation. Personally I like tape for 3 weeks to keep tension off the incision. I then switch to bio-oil massage and silicone strips to prevent scar hypertrophy. This a natural healing process that I try to minimize. Ask your surgeon what they think is best.Dr Rodger ShorttOakville Plastic SurgeonDirector of Cosmetic Surgery Training &Assistant Clinical Professor,McMaster University

CONTACT NOW Answer: Silicone (bio oil) Post Surgery: When to Start to Get the Best Scars? Silicone gels or tapes and bio-oils are usually administered to prevent the surgical scars to become hypertrophic and hence achieve the best scar quality . When to use is totally the preference of the surgeon. In my practice for breast and body aesthetics, I usually use a special water resistant strip on the incision lines during surgery which are left in place for a month allowing the patient to take shower immediately the day after surgery. This is of major comfort to the patient as he/she does not need to change any dressings and can freely return back to routine life. After removal of the tapes 1 month post surgery, I usually administer silicone gels and tapes for controlling the scar quality. Hope this helps, Ali Rıza Öreroğlu, MD FEBOPRASEuropean and Turkish Board Certified Aesthetic, Plastic and Reconstructive SurgeonIstanbul, Turkey

Answer: Only after it heals enough You should wait until there is only scarring and not actual wounds. That happens in about a month from the surgery.

Answer: Bio Oil on Incicsion Scars in general heal well irregardless of what you do to them. The redness will fade with time and takes several months in some cases. At 6 weeks a scar has the most collagen it will have in the healing process. After that it undergoes maturation phase. If the scar is thickened, silicone gel sheeting can help and has been proven for that purpose. Lotions and oils are good to keep the skin soft and pliable to create a better milieu for healing. Ointments or vaseline are not good moisturizers. Again scars will generally heal well in spite of what your put on them, just be patient. Do not tan on a red or immature scar until the reddness has faded or you will get some color changes.
