I'm 5 weeks post op and my incisions are red and getting lumpy. Would it be ok to use bio oil directly on the incision? I have to wear tape on them for 3 months and change them every three days. They seem to be healing nicely

Answer: Bio Oil on Incicsion Scars in general heal well irregardless of what you do to them. The redness will fade with time and takes several months in some cases. At 6 weeks a scar has the most collagen it will have in the healing process. After that it undergoes maturation phase. If the scar is thickened, silicone gel sheeting can help and has been proven for that purpose. Lotions and oils are good to keep the skin soft and pliable to create a better milieu for healing. Ointments or vaseline are not good moisturizers. Again scars will generally heal well in spite of what your put on them, just be patient. Do not tan on a red or immature scar until the reddness has faded or you will get some color changes.
