Why do I have these pockets under my lip, is there any way to get rid of them? (photo)

Question

I am only 21 and I feel like I started to notice these pouches under my lip about a year ago. I have looked into it and saw some "experts" mention it could be related to irritable bowel syndrome or things like "facial yoga" could help. I also have a dimple connecected by a piece of flesh inside my mouth under my lip, could this be the cause? I JUST WANT THESE POUCHES GONE it is making my face appear deformed.

Thank you for sharing your question and photographs.  The indentation between the sides of your lower lip are due to the underlying musculature and not the connected piece of flesh inside of your lip.  This can be improved upon with either dermal filler placement of fat grafting but you need to see an ASPS board certified plastic surgeon in consultation to discuss. Lisa.  I am not entirely sure what you mean because I do not see any gross abnormalities in your photos.  Sometimes we bite our lips unknowingly when sleeping, and this can cause swelling that you describe.  Lip Augmentation may help, but best to seek out board certified plastic surgeon or dermatologist to fully evaluate your situation.  Good luck!

Hi Lisa235, It's not too obvious from the photo what you are concerned about but I hazard a guess that it's the shallow indent below your lower lip. You could use fillers for this - they won't last long but getting them maybe 3-4 times somehow develops your own collagen. if you mean the shadows under the lips they are not pockets, it's an indentation and is best fixed with fillers. I use HA fillers thee. Unfortunately they don't last more than about 4-6 months in that location because of all the motion around the mouth
