Is there any risk of allergic reaction with lip fillers?

Question

I have a nut allergy and carry an epi pen for this. Also sensitive to many seasonal allergies, animals, and artificial scents/perfumes. I've read allergy is extremely rare but am worried as I seem to be sensitive to many things.

Thank you for your question. Fat injections are popular because they are a natural method of lip injections that would not cause any allergic reaction. Part of your consultation with your board certified facial plastic surgeon will be a discussion of your medical history. Your consultation will allow your surgeon to determine your candidacy for fillers.

The incidence of allergic reactions to common fillers is extremely rare since these fillers are made up of a natural substance found in your body called hyaluronic acid. That being said, make sure to provide your surgeon with a list of your allergies prior to your injections. Testing can be done prior to your injections. Best wishes!

Dazcrz.   It is extremely rare to experience allergic reactions to fillers like Juvederm.  However, since you have a history of allergies to different sources, ask your provider about doing a skin test first.  A minuscule amount of the desired filler is injected just under the skin in a spot like your arm.  If there is no reaction within 48 hours then you should have no problems.  Be sure to consult with a board certified plastic surgeon or dermatologist.  Good luck!

The chance of a reaction is very rare but can occur. I have many patients with your issue and I have skin tested the product for 48 hours prior in a few patients in the past.
