How do I know if I tore my muscle repair after an abdominplasty?

I had a full abdominplasty with muscle repair 13 days ago and yesterday I caught my daughter falling off the bed and I felt a tight burning sensation and today I am so sore and still experiencing the burning sensation. Is it possible I tore my muscle repair? How do I find out?

Hello! This is not an unusual scenario. Typical for you to feel tearing pain. You are likely fine. Warning signs include significant swelling, bruising or fullness, or continued pain. You should see your plastic surgeon as soon as you can. Best of luck!

It is difficult to tear an abdominoplasty repair, so you likely just irritated the area from the strain.  Contact your surgeon to discuss the situation.  In the meantime rest the area.  Your surgeon may recommend anti inflammatory medication to help with the soreness.

I'm sorry to hear about your concerns after tummy tuck surgery. Generally speaking, it is difficult to "tear" a well performed abdominal wall plication.  If this does occur, it is usually associated with significant discomfort, swelling, and/or bruising. Best to let your plastic surgeon know of your situation/concerns.  He/she will be in the best position to provide you with an accurate assessment and/or meaningful reassurance.
