What is the best position to sleep 2 weeks post tummy tuck with seroma? I do sleep with my compression off only for the shower!

I just want to know what’s the best position for sleep with out making it worse and helping it get reabsorbed by the body I do leave my compression on 24/7 off only for showers? Is flat better is semi Fowler’s, side, fetal position.

Thank you for your questions. There is not really a specific position that is going to improve seroma. You need to wear your garment and avoid certain strenuous activities. Thank you for sharing your excellent question.  Although position will not materially impact your ability to avoid a seroma, I would recommend continuing to wear a compression garment as much as possible, while also avoiding twisting activities that causes sheer forces between your muscle and skin layers.  Hope this helps.

I would recommend that you sleep on your back in a semi flexed position.  This take stress off of your muscle repair and keep you comfortable. Compression should be worn at all times except for showering.  The compression controls swelling, helps shape and improves comfort level due to he support it lends  Best wishes

Most patients find it most comfortable to sleep in a semi reclined position with pillow support under the knees.  This position takes tension off of the abdomen.  Your surgeon can let you know when it is okay to sleep on your side based on how you've been progressing through recovery.

You can adopt the position that best suits you and in which you feel most comfortable. It helps to use several pillows to accommodate yourself

Your sleeping position will not change your seroma. Initially, patients are most comfortable sleeping on their back with the head and feet slightly elevated. At about two weeks, you should be comfortable enough to turn a bit more to the sides.It sounds like you are doing a great job with the binder-wearing it all the time.  Be sure to check with your Plastic Surgeon. He/she may have different recommendations. Best!
