I had a breast reduction surgery on Dec 5. I went from a 36E to about a C cup. About 4 weeks after the surgery I had fluid buildup and ended up in the ER. They drained my left breast and gave me anti biotics to kill the infection. Now, my right breast has hardened up and looks deformed. At my follow up appointment, my surgeon said my breast will settle and the hardness will go away with time if massage it everyday. (Which I have been doing 10 min 3x a day)
Answer: Breast Massage Hi Brooke, You are still early in the healing process. You most likely had some scar tissue form after the infection which may or may not resolve on its own or with massage. Dont give up hope, it may still soften up quite a bit. If you have some scar that doesnt soften and remains indented, it can usually be addressed at 6 months or so postop. Hope that is of some reassurance. All the best, Dr. Meegan Gruber

Answer: Long Process Final healing can take up to a year as your PS said... It can be a frustrating wait but best to wait before any other intervention.

Answer: Breast reduction surgery: Will this go away with time if I massage? I'm sorry to hear about the complications you have experienced. It is hard to tell, online, exactly what is going on. Generally speaking, areas of breast firmness tend to "soften up" over the course of several months. Some general thoughts regarding fat necrosis (IF this is indeed present) may be helpful to you:Areas of fat necrosis can be treated surgically; nonsurgical management is an option also. If the area of fat necrosis is small, it may take a few weeks or months to dissipate; for larger areas, it may take several months (or longer). Sometimes, patients will experience drainage as the unhealthy tissue liquefies and makes its way out. The important part of this process is close follow-up with your plastic surgeon, who may able to help with judicious debridement debridement ( surgical removal of unhealthy tissue). Whether or not surgical intervention is indicated is a clinical judgment that only he/she can make after physical examination and consideration of your progress/concerns. Best wishes for an outcome that you will be pleased with long-term.

Answer: Scarring after breast reduction I'm sorry to hear of your complications after your reduction. That wouldn't be very common. You appear to still have a lot of residual swelling, bruising & inflammation which is causing the unevenness. The good thing is that your skin wounds are healing well. I would continue to massage (gently) to help soften the scarring. It is likely to take 6 months or more for things to improve. It is possible that you may still require revision after that time....but I would recommend waiting until things were as stable as possible before contemplating that. All the very best.

Answer: Breast reduction Hello and thank you for your excellent question. Based upon your description and photos, you have had a difficult course since your breast reduction. I have a few suggestions:- Without an in-person evaluation, it is difficult to decide what is the best course of treatment for your case;- Massage, or some type of soft-tissue treatment is likely to help improve your outcome;- I would suggest that at some point, some type of revision surgery may be beneficial. For the near future, I suggest that you follow up directly with your surgeon. If you have any questions, call our office for assistance. Good luck!
