Do you have to drink lots of water permanently for your Juvederm to last longer?

I heard your body absorbs juvaderm products gradually with time, so if you drink plenty of water every day it won't affect as much and last longer. Is this true?

This is a good question.  Juvaderm does not last permanently no matter the amount of water you drink.  HA binds 1000 times its weight in water initially then is degraded slowly over the course of the filler's life.  Drinking water keeps the skin hyrdated. However, the amount of water you drink does not affect the life of the filler.  All the best.

During the first several weeks after a juvederm injection, the product is very hydrophyllic and takes on water. once it is in equilibrium with the tissues it no longer takes on water and additional water intake orally will no longer affect this

No, you do not have to drink excessive water to maintain your juvederm. Juvederm in most instances and depending upon the specific type will last 6-9  months or 9-12 months.

Although hydration is important for all biological function, there is no evidence that optimal hydration increases the longevity of fillers. Each filler is "cross-linked" by the manufacturer so it breaks down slowly. Fillers used around the mouth reabsorb more quickly due to motion and fillers in the temple break down more slowly since this area moves less. Some patient are known to be "hypermetabolizers" and regardless of which filler is used, they break the cross-linking more easily. The average filler lasts 6-12 months.

Juvederm generally lasts about nine months to a year.  Your metabolism will affect the length of time that the product lasts in your system.  Drinking water is healthy and good for you overall but will not affect the longevity of the product. Best, Dr. Green

Thank you for your question. Drinking water is always good for you and will make you feel and look better but in terms of it affecting longevity of dermal fillers, it doesn't affect them. The duration of Juvederm or any other filler depends on the type of filler used, its amount used, where it was injected as well as your body's metabolism. You do NOT have to drink lots of water for Juvederm to last longer. There is a finite amount of Juvederm injected into your body and that amount of Juvederm can absorb only so much water. You should drink as much water as your body requires. Good luck from New York City

While its important to maintain adequate hydration overloading with water will not alter the life span of your Juvederm. These products have a reproducible breakdown cycle which lasts from 3 months to over a year depending on the location of the injection and type of product. The HA do absorb water which helps gives support to their filling effect but they will not absorb am=ny more water with over hydration
