Breast augmentation while attending college: is a week enough for recovery time?

A full week of recovery is enough time before you resume your daily school routine.  For 4-6 weeks, you will want to refrain from any heavy lifting, pushing or pulling to prevent complications with your recovery process.  Always check with your surgeon during your post operative appointments.

A solid week of recuperation should be plenty of time to allow you to comfortably and safely return to your academic pursuits. Short bike rides around campus should be OK at the 1-week mark, but it is advisable to check with your surgeon to be sure.

Recovery time and pain varies patient to patient. Generally, patients should avoid any vigorous physical activity for 6 weeks post op. Please consult your surgeon if you are still concerned.

You should be able to do quite well after a week of healing after breast augmentation. The more active you are, the more sore you will be, but this usually wouldn't threaten good results. Ask your plastic surgeon about how they like to manage their patients after breast augmentation.

1 week after surgery might be enough to go back to school. However, carrying a backpack and riding a bicycle so soon can be risky and hinder your recovery. Physical activity and lifting weights should be limited after surgery. Placement of the implant also have a say in this.

You might get by with one week off after surgery. I am concerned particularly about the heavy back pack but also your bicycle riding as well. If you were my patient, I would spend time discussing a more conservative recovery strategy with you.

Dear Girlybabe:  Different patients react to surgery differently and their perception of pain varies greatly.  In my practice I've told the following story a million times it seems.  Two sisters one year apart underwent breast augmentation back to back on the same day using the exact same implants and technique.  One sister called me 3 days later and asked if she could get into a hot tub.  The other sister came back to get her stitches out one week postop and looked as if she had just been hit by a truck.  My point is that it varies greatly BUT:  I would say in the vast majority of patients one week off will be sufficient to return to the activities you describe.  You may be a little slow the first few days back but it will be survivable.Best of luck to you!G. As long as you do not experience any complications, you should be fine to return to school 1 week post-op from a BAM. You do want to be careful that you don't raise your heart rate or blood pressure for another week post-op. So, no running across campus to catch a class and be careful with lifting a heavy backpack.Best wishes.

You should do just fine with a week off after your breast augmentation. Almost all of my breast augmentation patients return to work/school within one week of their procedure. This doesn't mean that 7 days after your breast augmentation, you'll be completely pain free, but by that time Advil and Tylenol should be plenty for the pain, and you'll be off of narcotics. Biking at one week might be too uncomfortable, so plan on walking or getting a ride. Best of luck to you!

For my patients having a breast augmentation, I recommend they take 2 days off of work, 3 weeks off of cardio at the gym, and 6 weeks off of weight lifting and yoga exercises. One week should be plenty of time for you to recover before returning to school. However, it is best to refrain from lifting over 10 lbs for the first 6 weeks post surgery. I recommend consulting with a board certified plastic surgeon and discussing specific post surgical restrictions.
