Thank you for your question. I typically have my patients stop all supplements 2 weeks before surgery. I typically only suggest taking vitamin c and iron before. Other supplements can cause an increase in bleeding. I would suggest speaking with your PS and follow their recommendations. Best of luck to you.
Thank you for sharing your excellent question. Always best to discuss any medications and OTC supplements with your surgeon but neither of these should complicate your procedure. Hope this helps.
Thanks for your inquiry, what supplements you can take is really up to your surgeon. If there are no extra ingredients, collagen and magnesium are pretty safe, but ask your surgeon and good luck.
Thank you for questionAs always I would suggest speaking with your board certified plastic surgeon about preoperative care prior to your surgery. I usually suggest to stop all blood thinners at least two weeks before surgery however , collagen could help with healing.
Most likely magnesium and collagen do not affect the "blood clotting" mechanism and will not need to be stopped. In general it is safest as a precaution to stop all non-essential supplements as many ingredients are not well known or controlled for their effects. With the 24 hour recovery technique, most patients don't even have a bruise except a slight amount around the incision and hence we don't typically worry. There are lists of medications available from our office and your pharmacist would be great reference to any that you may be taking that would affect the blood clotting and pre-dispose you to having a hematoma. We are always open to advising any patient that calls us via telemedicine or in person.M. Kara, MD, FRCSC. Specializing in 24 Hour Recovery Breast Augmentation.
Thank you very much for your question as it is a good one. Prior to scheduling any surgical procedure, even elective surgery, it is important to let your operating physician know everything that you are taking, even supplements. Every surgeon will have their own, unique set of protocols on what should be stopped and how long before surgery. While it may be fine to continue with your collagen powder and magnesium up till your surgery date, your operating surgeon will need to give the final approval.
Dear D3bb,Hello and thank you for your excellent question. While I do not think that you need to stop taking your supplements, you need to check specifically with your surgeon. Good luck! Best, Jon Ver Halen, MD FACS
