What would be possible surgical or non-surgical dermatological procedures most suitable to make my indented scar invisible or very less noticeable? I fell in the washroom and hit my forehead 4 months ago. Emerg MD did 5 stiches and now I have this scar. It is stressing me out everyday and I feel depressed due to this.
Answer: Scar revision Hello and thank you for your question. The best advice you can receive is from an in-person consultation. With that being said, based on your photographs, you may benefit from a scar revision surgery. Make sure you specifically look at before and after pictures of real patients who have had this surgery performed by your surgeon and evaluate their results. The most important aspect is to find a surgeon you are comfortable with. I recommend that you seek consultation with a qualified board-certified plastic surgeon who can evaluate you in person. Best wishes and good luck. Richard G. Reish, M.D. Harvard-trained plastic surgeon

Answer: Forehead scar Sorry to hear of your accident. Most plastic surgeons would tell you that four months is simply too early to consider any kind of revision. There is still significant inflammation related to the trauma and the repair, and the scar will still mature considerably on its own over time. For now, efforts should be directed to assist scar maturation. Consider daily massage of the site, silicone based topical scar creams, and sun protection. If the depression persists, and you want a non-surgical option, filler could be considered to address the contour, and if flat, the scar would be less noticeable as there would be less "shadowing." If the scar remains this noticeable, a surgical revision could be entertained. Try to be patient...
