Does the location of the belly button change with a tummy tuck?

In a full tummy tuck, the belly button stays attached to the abdomen wall and is "re-inset" into the upper abdominal flap with a resulting scar around it.  While the position technically stays the same on the abdominal wall, it frequently appears higher on the abdomen post tummy tuck.  In my opinion, this is actually a more "youthful" appearance.  In a mini tummy tuck, the belly button is either pulled downward, a repositioned downward on the abdominal wall in a "float" procedure.  My personal preference is that if this relocation is anything more than mild, I don't recommend it and urge patients to consider full tummy tuck for a better result; ultimately, though, it's a choice that's up to the patient.

A "full" abdominoplasty(tummy tuck) will keep the belly button in the same location.  The base of the belly button actually comes from deeper tissues of your abdominal wall.  The tummy tuck operation will change the surface skin, and therefore the belly button will need to penetrate a new area of skin.  The base of the belly button does not change location. 
However, if you receive an umbilical float, this will change the location of the belly button.
