Can I have a breast augmentation with ringworm?

Question

I have had ring worm for 2 weeks. I have been on oral medication for a 1 week (still have 1 week to go) and anti fungal cream for 2 weeks. Is it still okay to have a revision breast augmentation in 9 days? The rash was on my back and spread to my stomach. Photos are attached.

Thank you for your questions.  Typically I would require my patients to be completely clear from the rash before I would operate on them.  Each surgeon will have their own protocol they wish to follow.  I would suggest speaking with your surgeon in person and following their recommendations.  Best of luck to you.

Your rash should be completely resolved and you should be off all treatment medications for a period of 2-6 weeks, depending on what your plastic surgeon prefers.

In the absence of an immunocompromised state, the fungal infection should clear without becoming systemic.  Bacterial infection can become an issue with scratching and rubbing.  Complete your treatment before surgery.  Be sure to inform your plastic surgeon of the outbreak.

Ringworm is a fungal infection and is somewhat difficult to completely resolve.  You may have resolution but then over time it will likely come back.  However, given that breast augmentation is an elective procedure, I would recommend you wait until it is cleared up before you procedure with the procedure.Hope that helps.

You should be healthy prior to any elective procedure, especially when using implants. Every plastic surgeon has his own preoperative protocol which he recommends to his patients. I would suggest you to discuss this with your plastic surgeon.

Since the rash in on your stomach and close to your breasts, it should be completely gone and you be off medication for it prior to surgery. Please talk to your surgeon to see what he/she prefers.

It is best to wait until the ring worm is all cleared up before doing your breast augmentation. It would be less worrisome if the ringworm was on your legs or an area of your body far away from the chest. The ring worm in the photos would be in the operative field.
