Skin tenting is not very frequently used term in description of breast surgery result, complication, etc. A set of good photos would help to visualize/evaluate your problem and discuss possible solutions to treat it. Good luck.
I assume you mean the skin is lifted up a bit on the inside edge of your breasts near the cleavage line. It will take several months for you to fully recover from BA surgery and during that time the skin will stretch out and the swelling will disappear both of which will help the skin tenting I believe you are referring to. Generally, no surgery is necessary. I hope this helps!Thomas S. Taylor, MD, FACS
Thank you for sharing your excellent question. With tissue swelling after surgery the skin overlying the breast bone can be elevated off of the bone for a period of time. This improves as the swelling recedes and the skin stretches to accommodate the implants. Hope this helps.
Photos would be helpful in providing feedback. In most cases, do not worry about the skin lifting off after breast augmentation. Swelling will resolve and skin will relax, and you will likely be happy. This kind of early result can happen when the surgeon tries to tighten the skin envelope in a person with loose skin.
Really would not want to guess as to what you mean by skin tenting. Maybe a photograph to illustrate what your concerns are or a more thorough description would be helpful.
Hello and thank you for your question. Please provide more details and include photos if possible. Best, Pejman Aflaki, M.D. Johns Hopkins-trained double board-certified plastic surgeon
Dear AA2C,in most cases it is referred to elevated skin between two breasts after placement of implants. I understand your concern. However, without a proper assessment it would be difficult to determine what is wrong. It is best that you visit your plastic surgeon for further assessment. Only after thorough examination you can get proper recommendations and advice.Daniel Barrett, MD
Hello and thank you for your question . Many women have skin tenting after breast augmentation due to swelling. It typically goes down after all swelling has subsided. The more permanent form is if the implants are too large .
Hi and welcome to our forum!Skin tenting occurs when the skin and soft tissues of the breasts are pulled away from the breast bone at anterior midline. The most common cause is early postoperative swelling following breast augmentation which usually subsides within a month or so. It can also be caused by the use of overly large implants. The phenomenon also may occur spontaneously as a congenital deformity. (symmastia). Persistent tenting after augmentation can be treated with internal suturing and if it occurs after augmentation, one should consider a smaller implant. If you are experiencing tenting, visit a board certified plastic surgeon for evaluation and discussion.Best wishes...
It is difficult to know exactly the issue without an examination or seeing a photo. Generally immediately after breast surgery, the skin may appear distorted or asymmetric between the two sides. Overtime the tissues and skin will relax and settle back into a more natural appearance. Hope this helps!Johnson C. Lee, MDBoard-Certified Plastic Surgeon
Hi, It is possible for patients with autoimmune conditions to have breast implants. It is thought that a rare condition called Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma (ALCL) might be linked to patients with autoimmune conditions. ALCL to date has only been reported in patients who have received textured...
