Can a person with cold-induced hives get CoolSculpting?

Thank you for your question. I do not advise Coolsculpting for patients with a known sensitivity to cold such as Urticaria. I recommend having a consultation with your allergist to get there opinion. Best of Luck!

Patients with a known sensitivity to cold such as cold urticaria or Raynaud’s disease may not tolerate Coolsculpting as well as other patients, although it is not an absolute contraindication to treatment. Personally, I would be reluctant to treat you, as the Coolsculpting head gets down to minus seven degrees centigrade, and even with anti-histamines you still may break out in hives. Coolsculpting is an elective procedure, and your overall health and safety must be the number one priority in any treatment setting. There are other options to consider, such as surgical liposuction, or fat dissolving injections for double chin fat. Patients with a history of cryoglobulinemia, cold agglutinin disease, or paroxysmal cold hemoglobinuria should definitely not undergo treatment with Coolsculpting. 

I would not recommend doing this procedure with your condition since it may induce more hives.  However, you could consult with your allergist and get their opinion since they know you best.  Good luck. 

The short answer is no.  Urticaria or hives are an immune reaction to a stimulus, in your case, cold.  You would not want to intentionally induce this.  There are other options for you including BodyTite and traditional liposuction that do not involve cold. if you have a severe form of cold urticaria Coolsculpting is not recommended . There are different degrees of manifestation of cold urticaria, so I suggest you consult an allergist first . If you have a mild form then Coolsculpting should be fine and can pretreat with Claritin or antihistamine . More severe manifestations of cold urticaria can lead to possible venous thrombosis from what is known as cold agglutination
