Do you have any ideas if this is a bruise or broken vessel from Juvederm? (photos)

I have had Juvederm twice now, first time I bruised slightly almost none. This second time I didn’t bruise at all, however at one of the injection sites I have a large red blood vessel / telangiectasia. Looks like it busted somehow.. is this normal? Will it fade on its own? Or Can laser treat the telangiectasia? I had Juvederm ultra plus about a week ago and have had this red mark on my lip immediately after the procedure. I'm sure it’s just a bruise but it hasn’t changed size color since the day I received treatment. Any ideas?

Hello and thank you for your question. While it is difficult to make an assessment from images alone, it does appear this mark is a bruise from your injection. I would guess it will fade within two weeks. If it does not subside, I recommend you see your injector for a follow-up evaluation to determine whether additional treatment might be needed.

Presumably there was nothing wrong with your lip before injection. Therefore this probably represents a leakage of some blood from a pierced blood vessel which is called a bruise. Should resolve in about 2 weeks. It is impossible to do lip injections without getting a bruise now and then.

If this is a bruise it should fade over a couple of weeks.  If you are not seeing improvement the vessel can be treated with a laser to help improve the look.  Return to your injector two weeks from treatment for an evaluation if you still have concerns.

Bruising is a common side effect from cosmetic injections.  If this bruise or broken blood vessel persists then you have have the area lasered with a pulsed dye laser such as the V-Beam.  Please consult an expert in cosmetic injections from Juvederm for the best cosmetic results.  Best, Dr. Green

Hi paleprincess38,This appears to be a small bruise and should resolve within two weeks. I suggest returning to see your injector in person to be evaluated. For any future injections, consider having injections done with a cannula. In my practice I perform many filler injections in the lips with cannulas and this has greatly reduced the risk of bruising. Hope this helps,
