I have had gynecomastia since my teens (24 now). I have read online that if you are on drugs like finasteride, it excludes you from being covered by your insurance. However, I have only been on fin for ONE MONTH today, so fin did not cause the gyno, although, i do not think there is a way to prove that I have only been on gyno for 1 month. I was overweight throughout teens, but have since lost 80 lbs, now 5'11 160 lbs. I have BCBS federal employee program, and the gyno does cause pain sometimes.

Answer: Gynecomastia Surgery Covered By Insurance? I appreciate your concerns and by all standards your particular case most certainly should be covered by insurance. The problem is that insurance companies often require some sort of functional issue to be present before they will allow coverage of many types of elective surgery. They used to consider psychological issues but most companies have gone away from that. You may consider consulting with a psychiatrist and asking the Psychiatrist to assist your plastic surgeon in obtaining authorization for your surgery. Be certain to consult with a board-certified plastic surgeon. Good luck.

Answer: Can my gynecomastia be covered by insurance? Thank you for the questions and pictures. From what I see, you would benefit from gynecomastia surgery. Insurance coverage really depends upon the insurance policy, so it is best to see a board certified plastic surgeon and have an evaluation. From there, the surgeon can contact your insurance company to determine coverage status. You can also contact your insurance company and ask under what conditions, if any, they cover gynecomastia surgery. Good luck.
