Hello! I am pursuing a nose job and have a question regarding pain and effects of the open procedure-- I have often read in people's reviews that they experience little to no significant pain following their rhinoplasty. They often report discomfort from breathing through the mouth, from packing, and from the breathing tube, and say that it looks worse than it feels. I wonder how this can be, considering what has been done. I understand that rhinoplasty often involves "breaking" the nose, significant cutting to the cartilage, and shaving down bone. These things seem like they would cause significant pain.I am having open rhinoplasty with work done to the bridge, and am curious about what to expect. I have unfortunately come across pictures of what it looks like to have open rhinoplasty and it has made me anxious. Here are the questions I would like feedback on:Is open surgery more painful than closed, due to the pulling back of the nose flap? What is the risk of damage to the skin and tissue that is pulled back? Does it ever tear, or sustain long term damage? Do patients report more pain with alterations to the bridge than patients who just have alterations to the tip?Thank you so much for your feedback.
