Hi there! First I'd like to thank this website and the contributing doctors for helping people improve their self-satisfaction :D you all are changing lives here! Thanks! My nose is wide, flat, droppy, and I've got flared nostrils. Basically, I think everything that people usually correct for lol. I'd love a more defined nose. Somewhat more European looking. What things should I expect to hear during my consultation? (I don't want yo be persuaded into getting. Michael Jackson nose!!)
Answer: Refining nasal appearance. To achieve the changes you are looking for in your nasal profile, you would need to 1) narrow the upper portion of your nose, 2) elevate the bridge of your nose, usually done by adding cartilage grafts, 3) narrow the width of your nostrils, 4) increase the projection as well as the definition of the tip of your nose. To achieve this would also require cartilage grafts and you should understand it is more difficult to get refinement of the nasal tip in blacks, hispanics and middle eastern patients, as they naturally have thicker tissues in the nasal tip. See a board certified plastic surgeon to discuss in detail what could be accomplished.

Answer: Narrowing a wide nose with possibility of grafting Thank you for your inquiry! It seems that you are a good candidate for a corrective rhinoplasty that will provide you with the nose you fancy while keeping its look natural and complementing your facial features. As a big picture, your nostrils and tip will be addressed and the bridge will be elevated. However, without a physical examination it is not possible to provide you with specific details. I highly recommend that you schedule a consultation with a well-experienced surgeon. It is important to mention that the finest cosmetic results in any particular case are based on a variety of factors, including: the unique anatomy of the patient, realistic expectations, a well-informed and detailed discussion with your plastic surgeon concerning the best options for you especially covering a deep understanding of the pros and cons of any given choice you will adopt. Please keep in mind that following the advice from a surgeon online who offers to tell you what to do without a physical examination covering the nature and the status of the tissue, assessing your desired outcome, taking a full medical history, and discussing the pros and cons of each operative solution would not be in your best interest. With that in mind, it is the safest and for your best interest to find a plastic surgeon with solid experience and certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery who is ideally a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons that you will trust and be comfortable with. You should discuss your concerns with that surgeon in person. Good luck!!! Ali Sajjadian, MD FACS

Answer: Rhinoplasty for flat and wide nose You would benefit from narrowing of the base (nostrils) and enhancing the bridge which would lead to a nose that on profile projects more from the level of the cheeks. Such a procedure is sometimes called "augmentation rhinoplasty".
