Pediatric scar removal options? (Photo)

Question

My 2.5 year old daughter received an injury scar to her forehead last September. She received 3 chromic gut (not fast absorbing gut) dissolvable sutures that were in for 10 days before being removed in office. She has the cross hatch mark/railroad track mark prominently from one of the sutures in the form of a hypopigmented line going through the laceration scar. Looking for a provider with pediatric injury scar experience (laser, excision, etc.). Willing to travel, not concerned about cost.

Our treatments use combination therapy to improve the epidermis and dermis for most deep scars. The options available for acne scars depend on the character of your scars, in terms of topography and contour. We see atrophic and hypertrophic acne scars, as well as scars that have hypo and hyperpigmentation. We begin each scar evaluation with an assessment of scar quality and subtype. Our main concern is rebuilding collagen and that is why we use a HIDEF protocol that includes combination therapy. Morpheus 8, scar subcision, fibrous release, fractional laser, CO2 laser, Thulium laser, PDL Vbeam laser, and fractional resurfacing can be used in addition to TCA Cross and chemical peels to further improve skin. Patients should start Melarase AM and Melarase PM for active hyperpigmentation. Always begin with a consultation to decide whether early subcision should be started.

Hello! Sorry that she's experiencing this. Scar therapy can be done on children a number of different ways. For areas that are raised, CO2 laser works quite well. If there's a pinkness present, then IPL can be supplemental. Scar creams such as Biocorneum also work well. Improvements can often be made, but it can't be guaranteed with a scar as healing is sometimes beyond our control. Hope this helps!
