I have the option of a standard silicone implant or pay 400 extra for natrelle, are there advantages of having natrelle and what would they be or are silicone just as good? I have been recommended extra high profile if that helps

Answer: Difference between standard and natrelle implants Hello, the classic implants that were available prior to Natrelle were less cohesive, will less silicone fill within the shell. When you hold them in your hand at the same time as the Natrelle implants there is significantly more rippling of the classic implants. That stated, this might not necessarily translate into more rippling in a patient's breasts. Many surgeons still use the classic line of implants. I personally have switched to the Natrelle line and I'm satisfied with the outcomes for my patients.

Answer: Standard silicone implants Unlike the situation in the USA, in Europe we have several brands of silicone implants available. While the three major brands (Allergan, Mentor and Silimed) went trough the complex process of the FDA approval in the USA, all the others do not really have independently assessed and monitored studies certifying their quality and safety. The recent case of PIP implants can be a good explanation of how some smaller brands can play the European system and sell substandard products. It is impossible to say if smaller implant manufacturers are currently selling better, worse, or just equivalent products when compared to the major brands. As a surgeon, my personal point of view is that it does not make sense to offer patient an 'upgraded', better type of implants, because that means that all the regular patients are getting something inferior, and that is not the kind of attitude that serious professionals should have. It all sounds too commercial to me, and besides, would you say it make sense to save £400 for something that you will hopefully have in your body for at least 10-15 years? I would suggest a second opinion with a surgeon that is less sales-oriented, ideally.
