Does a brow lift smooth out forehead lines?

Question

When I do winged liner, the fold at the outer corner of my eyes distorts it. It is upsetting because I really love eye makeup and this fold messes up the entire look. Also, does a brow lift smooth out forehead lines?

Thank you for your question. Yes, a brow lift can subsequently smooth out forehead lines. I do not recommend getting a brow lift for the sole purpose of smoothing these lines though; there are better treatment options out there. We could likely do some Botox to help these lines from affecting your makeup. Neuromodulators (such as Botox, Dysport, Xeomin, and Jeuveau) and soft tissue fillers like Belotero can improve the appearance of the forehead by reducing lines, wrinkles and folds. Deeper lines and wrinkles need a combination approach with Botox, fillers, lasers, and microneedling/PRP. One of the effects of a successful brow lift is smoother forehead skin with fewer wrinkles. However, a brow lift shouldn’t be performed merely to eliminate forehead furrows. Those can be taken care of with regular Botox injections, chemical peels and/or hyaluronic acid fillers. As for your eyelids, if you have loose, folded skin, you may benefit from blepharoplasty. However, that can only be determined during an in-person consultation. I hope this helps.

Thanks for the question.  If all you are interested in is softening the horizontal lines of the forehead, try Botox injections.  If you have a low brow, I would consider a brow lift.  By raising your brows surgically, you may not feel the need to raise them by actively doing so.  This may improve the lines as well.

Great question about a brow lift. A brow lift is also known as a forehead lift, and it will achieve both of the goals that you seek. Eyebrow lift will significantly reduce forehead lines because the brow lift raises your entire forehead and eliminates the need for your muscles to do so. When your muscles are not attempting to lift your forehead, they will not create those deep horizontal creases. Additionally, if you have the sort of forehead lift that directly impacts the muscles such as a coronal lift or a subcutaneous lift, then the muscles will also be directly weakened by the operation. The combined effect is to markedly minimize the horizontal forehead lines. Additionally, all types of forehead lifts directly weaken the corrugator muscles which causes the diagonal scowl lines between your eyebrows. Finally, forehead lift will reduce or eliminate something called hooding. Hooding is the overlap of your brow skin on top of your eyelid skin. So, it sounds like you’re an excellent candidate for a brow lift. The only other thing that you might want to keep in mind is that if you have a redundant excess eyelid skin in addition to brow droop, you might additionally benefit from an upper eyelid blepharoplasty at the same time. Your plastic surgeon will be able to tell you how much your eyelid skin may be contributing to the problem or not.

Thank you for your question. A browlift can address the wrinkles/ forehead lines  and leave you with a smoother forehead. Without a photo or a physical examination, it is hard to know what the best approach would be. However, it sounds like a browlift combined with upper eyelid (blepharoplasty) surgeryr would address both of your concerns. I recommend a consult with a board certified plastic surgeon to explore your options.

Yes, a brow lift can soften forehead lines which include horizontal lines created from the frontalis muscle, and the vertical lines created from the corrugator muscle.  The muscles  the themselves are softened  and weakened during the surgical procedure to reduce the amount of expression.  Botox is also a temporary treatment to reduce forehead lines, while surgery is permanent improvement.  For many before and after brow lift examples, please see the video and the link below

A brow lift will elevate the level that the brows are positioned around the eyes. There are certain techniques that can be used to soften the muscle movement between the brows. However, the horizontal lines are going to continue to form unless you do other treatments such as Botox to relax the movement of the muscles forming those lines.
