Question

I went out to buy wax to remove my upper lip hairs. I used it and was a terrible wax! But I still used it! I just really wanted to get rid of my hairs. So I eagerly tried to get rid of my upper lip hairs. So I Kept doing it so many times not caring how bad it burned with the strips. So the next day I have a really dry upper lip with a brown shade. That's so notice able !!! Please help ....

I don't recommend trying to improve this yourself. Hyperpigmentation can be improved with a combination of lasers, Aerolase, microneedling/prp, skin lightening, peels, and skin care. Sun protection is essential. I recommend getting a formal evaluation with a cosmetic dermatologist. Best, Dr. Emer

Hi there. By looking at the photo you provided I can see that your skin is irritated. I would recommend staying away from that area and using aloe vera. Also avoid using any strong skin care like rental, exfoliates, and toners as they will dry that area out more and cause the irratation to get worse.

Thank you for your question and for submitting your photo.  It's impossible to make an exact diagnosis without assessing you in-person.  From the photos, it appears that you may be experiencing post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH).  Any time the skin experiences irritation or inflammation (from rashes, acne, cuts or incisions, or in this case, aggressive waxing) there is a possibility of temporary brown staining of the skin, called PIH.  
In most cases, PIH will fade with time.  There are a few measures you can take to help expedite the process.  The pigment is very sensitive to sunlight, so avoiding excess sun exposure and using good sun protection daily (at least an SPF of 30, with zinc oxide) will help prevent the PIH from worsening.  You may also benefit from a prescription-strength skin lightening regimen.  Dermaplaning is unlikely to help with this condition.  I would recommend scheduling a consultation with a board-certified dermatologist to discuss your concerns.  Best of luck!
