Otoplasty - right ear 5 mm more protruded than the left. Should I have a revision? (Photos)

You actually have an excellent and very natural result. Slight asymmetries are normal, and perfect symmetry is never achievable. Yes—as a surgeon, I can appreciate the small difference, but I am confident it is not noticeable in daily life to most people. Attempting a revision to correct such a minimal difference carries the risk of making it worse. I would recommend against revision in your case.

I can see the asymmetry that you are referring to, however, you have a much more pleasing and natural looking ear appearance than you did before surgery. A revision to achieve several millimeters of setback may not be worth the risk and uncertainty involved. I hope this helps. Sincerely, Dr Joseph

What do you think of your ears? it’s your opinion that is the most important. While some level of asymmetry is natural, if this is a concern you can certainly consider getting revision surgery.

Hello and thank you for your question. In terms of Otoplasty, it can be difficult to achieve perfectly symmetrical results. It will generally take longer than 2 months to determine what your long to results will be. A consultation with your surgeon may provide you with a reasonable outlook in terms of results. Overall, it appears as though you have achieved a significant change from the preoperative photos.

Your results look excellent. The difference is hardly noticeable. I would not recommend a revision.

Your ears look very close to being symmetrical. Remember that there is no perfect symmetry in nature, and surgery cannot be expected to create it. When considering revisions, remember that while a revision would be an attempt to improve on this very good result, there is always the possibility that the revision creates a new problem. When I viewed your photos, I did not notice any appreciable asymmetry, so I think it wise that you be pleased with your result and not attempt a revision. Best wishes.
