How long do weir excisions last?

Weir excisions are performed at the nasal base to narrow or shorten the nostrils. I cannot think of any case in which this was performed, where it was not noticeable. Permanent sutures are never used. Vicryl is placed in the deeper levels and plain gut or Prolene on the skin surface. The Prolene is removed from the skin in 7-10 days and the other sutures dissolve.  In terms of reduced rates, that would be up to you and your surgeon. Revision surgery by another surgeon is typically not reduced, but in fact could be more because of potential for healing issues or scarring. Best,

Thanks for your question. When a weir excision is performed, the effects are permanent. It may be difficult to notice if the size of your nose was also reduced and the nostrils are the same proportion of your nasal base as they were before.  
When performing weir excisions, it is best for the surgeon to be conservative as once tissue is removed, it cannot be replaced. It is possible for weirs to be revised if you are looking for a more dramatic result. This should only be done once you are fully healed. Every surgeon has a different policy when it comes to reduced rates. Discuss with your concerns with surgeon to come up with a plan.

When a weir excision is performed, the effects are permanent.  The skin that is removed does not grow back.  A good surgeon will do this procedure very conservatively.  If overdone, it is next to impossible to correct.  It is easier to excise additional skin later, if needed.  Follow up with your surgeon and express your concerns.
