Is it normal to bleed (menstruation) after tip Rhinoplasty?

Question

Hi, I just had closed tip rhinoplasty performed on 9/10/14. My menstrual period is very regular(every 28 days) and my first day of regular period started on 9/4/14 and lasted until 9/8/14.. Its usually only 3 to 4 days. 2 days after my surgery( Sep 12) I started bleeding again and I am now still lightly bleeding. Is this normal? Is this a new period? Will I still get my regular period 28 days after the 4th? I don't take birth control and just want to know when to expect my regular period back. Thanks!

Leigh9582,The dark spotting or bleeding is common when stress is placed on the body. This will often look slightly different than that which occurs during your menstrual cycle, appearing darker in color and less heavy. Anesthesia and the “stress” of surgery can affect your
hormones and probably your menstrual cycle. I think if will settle back to
normal very quickly.

It is not unusual to have what appears to be an early menstrual cycle after surgery or significant stress so I would not be concerned unless it persistsDr Corbin

Dear Leigh, Anesthesia medications and "stress" of surgery may affect your balance of hormones which can then affect your menstrual cycle. This should settle in a few days and you should return to your normal cycle. If you have continued bleeding please address this with your surgeon or gynecologist for follow up.
