I got my MiraDry procedure done on Monday (4/16) and I still have significant swelling and numbness under my arms. I can't really put my arms down because of the swelling. Is this still normal? I've iced the area for about 36 hours but now I'm back to work and can only ice in the evenings. Does icing still make sense? What can I do to reduce the swelling?

Answer: Swelling after Miradry It has been 5 days since your treatment and you can expect swelling to typically resolve within 2 weeks. Arnica tablets and SwellX twice daily can help reduce the inflammatory response. Continue to ice as you are doing as it can only help. I usually have patients ice for at least 3 days straight after the procedure and longer if necessary. You can use ice packs, frozen water bottles, or bags of frozen peas.

Answer: Pretty typical Miradry is a great procedure for sweat reduction but I disagree with their "no down time" marketing. The first 24 hours are the most painful but there is significant swelling from the tumescent anesthesia and the swelling from destroying sweet glands for days up to weeks following. The numbness can last for weeks but should resolve. Ice beyond 48 hours is unlikely to do much. I recommend starting some movement and light massage of the area now with a gradual return to normal activities.
