I had a bilateral mastectomy 7 years ago. No reconstruction, chemo or radiation. Can I be suffering from scar tissue now?

 I recommend that you see your surgeon and have him properly examine you. There are other things that might be happening that could be treated and the person who originally created you is best to see you and figure out exactly what's going on. Best of luck .

I would return to your surgeon and get checked out. there are things that can be done for tight scars. also check to make sure nothing else is going on

think your first step to be schedule an appointment with a Board Certified
Plastic Surgeon.You could still be a
good candidate for reconstruction either with expanders or with a flap.Scars can form after any surgery, but
massaging helps early on the postoperative period.As far as the burning, I would make sure you
follow up with your doctor just to make sure there is no recurrence of the
cancer.

Hello, and thank you for your question.It is no doubt you have a great deal of scar tissue after a bilateral mastectomy.  It may have never bothered you before, but it can become a problem more as time progresses.I advise going in to a board certified plastic surgeon to be examined.  You have many, many reconstructive options for the scar tissue, and even for your breasts.  A scar revision can reduce and eliminate pain, and improve visually your results should you be interested. All the best,Dr. ObengBeverly Hills, CA 

The longer you are from any surgery or injury the better and less the scars and scarring are but you never get rid of scarring. If you had radiation, then that prolongs the scarring effects which may result in what you are experiencing.
