We had several patients who underwent buttock augmentation/shaping with fat grafts after removal of implants. In most of these, it was done in the same surgery; the result was more than satisfactory. However, I would like to know how much fat graft volume is available; that can be determined only based on in-person or teleconference consultation. Hope this helps.

Butt implants have a high rate of failure. After removal it helps to replace the implant volume with fat and the success rates are much better.

BBL after butt implant removal is not uncommon, as buttock implants have a rather high complication profile (displacement, herniation). The procedure can be performed simultaneously, or in a staged fashion as yours would be. Staged is probably a little safer because there is less concern for injecting fat into an implant pocket, which could cause complications. Of course, BBL requires you to have enough fat available for transferring. Seek consultation with an American Board of Plastic Surgery board certified plastic surgeon who performs BBL on a regular basis for an examination and discussion of your options. Good luck!

In some individuals, when gluteal implants are removed, the skin and fat layer can sometimes drop on the buttocks from the separation of tissues created by the implant. That is a very different condition than having the skin be stretched out from the implant. As long as the skin and fat layer is anatomically aligned correctly, a BBL should work just fine. The living, consistent quality, liposuction and fat trans results is more complex than most people realize.
