Hello, thank you for your question. Your board certified plastic surgeon would require a medical clearance from your cardiologist. Best of Luck.
Dear Gettridge1,as long as you get a clearance from your cardiologist, you might be a candidate for a surgery. If you are considering a surgery, I would suggest you to consult a board-certified plastic surgeon. Only after a thorough examination you will get more information and recommendations.Daniel Barrett, MDCertified, American Board of Plastic SurgeryMember, American Society of Plastic SurgeryMember, American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery

Thanks for your question. There are several causes of left atrial enlargment. Left atrial enlargement is no an absolute contraindication for this surgery. A BBL is however a major type of surgery that requires general anesthesia. Prior to having this procedure it would be necessary for you to see your Cardioligist to make certain the your can safely have this surgery. The Cardioligist may perform additional tests or make certain recommendations for this surgery and he would make the determination whether you could have this surgery. .
The first thing to check is by Robblee how your cardiologist feels about having an elective cosmetic procedure. Most likely your plastic surgeon will request medical clearance from the cardiologist. We perform these procedures without the use of general anesthesia successfully on a regular basis. It's also pertinent to be assessed if this is a good procedure for you in the first place. For people who are excellent candidates and can expect a major quality-of-life life improvement under taking some risks may be justified. If this procedure is not going to offer much for you then it may not be worthwhile taking any risks. Best, Mats Hagstrom MD
whether you are a safe surgical candidate or not will have to be determined by your primary care physician and cardiologist. Preoperative clearance is required by law for any surgery that require general anesthesia.
Hi and welcome to our forum! The cause of the atrial enlargement and the extent to which it interferes with cardiac function are the important questions here. Your cardiologist most likely already has this data. I recommend that you visit your cardiologist for a thorough examination and testing to obtain cardiac clearance for the proposed BBL procedure. If felt safe to proceed, you would be considered a candidate if physical findings are appropriate. After your cardiology visit, obtain a consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon.Best wishes...
