Hi, I have had bodytite liposuction 7 months ago on my hips, inner thighs and inner knees. I wore my suit 24/7 for 2 months and an extra month at night. I am left with big dents on each side of my hips, the left side is more affected and has got more smaller dents and bumps.. They look pretty bad when I am lying down. I have also had a burning sensation where the big dents are, particularly at night. I went to see the surgeon who told me this is because I did not wear the garment for 6 months…
Answer: Lying doctors Delivering consistent quality, liposuction results turns out to be far more difficult than most people realize. The number of plastic surgeons who’ve truly mastered. These procedures are in the minority. There are unfortunately significant number of well intended board-certified plastic surgeons with years of experience, who simply are not good at Liposuction. There are only two variables that determine Liposuction outcomes. The first first is the patient’s candidacy for the procedure and the second is the skill and experience of the provider. Nothing else really matters. Compression garments have nothing to do with surgical outcome and there is no evidence that compression garments impact outcome or are even necessary. in our practice, we ask patients to wear compression garments for two weeks and get consistent quality outcomes and have for a decade. Correct poorly done Liposuction is inherently difficult and complex. Revision work is far more difficult than primary Liposuction. Considering how much variation there is in primary Liposuction Need to find the right provider becomes even more important when it comes to revision work. Improving. Poor Liposuction outcomes is generally done with a combination of more liposuction, and or fat transfer. Any attempt at Liposuction revision has the potential of making your results worse so provider selection is absolutely paramount. To find the right provider I suggest patients start the process by having multiple in person consultations starting with providers seem to have a solid track record for doing a lot of liposuction. During each consultation, ask each provider to open up their portfolio and show you their entire collection of before, and after pictures of previous patients who had similar characteristics to your own. And experience provider should have no difficulty showing you the before and after pictures of at least 50 previous patients. A highly experienced provider should in fact have access to hundreds or preferably thousands of before and after pictures for this procedure of all various body areas. Being shown a handful of pre-selected images, representing only the best results of the providers career is insufficient to get a clear understanding of what average results look like in the hand of each provider, with your results are likely to look like or to get a clear understanding of how many of these procedures that provider has performed. There’s no correct number of consultations needed to find the right provider. Some of it is simply sheer luck. Considering how much variation there is in Liposuction talent among board-certified plastic surgeons I recommend patients consider having at least five consultations before choosing a provider. Considering that Liposuction results are more or less permanent, and can leave people disfigured like in your case, I cannot emphasize enough the importance of properly vetting providers, and being an advocate for yourself before selecting a provider and scheduling surgery. Doing this procedure well on a regular basis with the ability to accurately assess patients and Deliver consistent outcomes. Turns out to be far more difficult than most people realize and this is true for not only patience but also plastic surgeons. A lot of plastic surgeons think they’re far better at Liposuction than they actually are. It is unfortunate your provider is not willing to take ownership for their poorly done work. Correcting or improving, your outcome is going to be difficult and the best you could probably hope for is a partial improvement. Getting substantial improvements may involve having multiple operations and may turn out to be quite expensive. Like I mentioned earlier, any attempt at revision can also make things much worse. Be very careful of providers who think this is easy to correct or those who claim that some technological device is going to fix the problem. As you now understand, adding high-tech devices like bodytite , has very little to do with quality outcomes, and are more of a sales gimmick. I’m sorry you find yourself in this situation. My best recommendation is to give yourself plenty of time to recover and take your time before jumping into any decisions about revision surgery. Rushing into secondary procedures can be a mistake. The next step is going to find the right provider to be working with. That process will most likely require a significant amount of time. You may want to discuss trying to get a refund or partial refund from your previous provider since the results are fairly poor. You can tell them I said so. Slow down and take your time interviewing providers to help you in the next stage. Patients who’ve been disfigured from cosmetic surgery are often apprehensive of trusting new providers. I’m also mentioned how much variation there is in skill. There are providers who are extremely talented at both Liposuction and fat transfer, but they are, not always easy to find. Look for providers who focus their career exclusively on liposuction and fat transfer or at least have these procedures, be a strong part of their practice. Best, Mats Hagstrom, MD
