Bandage smell post brachioplasty, I am 5 weeks post op.

Every plastic surgeon does their procedure differently; some wait for the bandages to fall off, while others remove the bandages early. If the bandage is stuck, you may need to apply hydrogen peroxide or betadine to the dressing to have the dressing become unstuck. Hello! I normally change my patients' dressings 1-2 days post-op, and then they change them every day, or every other day, for a week. More if needed. Get in touch with your surgeon about getting looked at - the 'bad smell' is not a good sign. 

Thank you for your question. I am guessing that you have steristrips (or papertape) over your incisions. Usually I have patients remove them at about 1-2 weeks and then replace them - for just this reason - things can start to smell. There may be other things going on, but in general an odor is not a good thing especially with regards to a surgical wound - and I would suggest meeting with your Plastic Surgeon to ensure that everything is healing appropriately. You should contact your surgeon and be seen. The Steri strips need to be removed. The smell, sensitivity and pain could indicate a stitch abscess or cellulitis.
