Bandage smell post brachioplasty, I am 5 weeks post op.

Question

My bandages over the incisions have still not fallen off. They smell horrible. almost like garbage that has been in a hot sun for weeks. obviously it’s summer so that does not help but is this normal that hey have not all fallen off yet and smell this bad? They also still hurt and are sensitive to the touch? i’ll be contacting my surgeon just to make sure but any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your question regarding bandages smelling post brachioplasty and your five weeks post-op. It is essential to speak with your plastic surgeon. An infection can be brewing. Every plastic surgeon does their procedure differently; some wait for the bandages to fall off, while others remove the bandages early. However, you must call your plastic surgeon immediately if things smell bad. If the bandage is stuck, you may need to apply hydrogen peroxide or betadine to the dressing to have the dressing become unstuck. Either way, you must follow up with your plastic surgeon regarding these bandages that smell after a brachioplasty. Hello! I normally change my patients' dressings 1-2 days post-op, and then they change them every day, or every other day, for a week. More if needed. Get in touch with your surgeon about getting looked at - the 'bad smell' is not a good sign.
