Will my Skin Tighten After my Neck Liposuction? (photo)

Part of the judgment that goes into evaluation of the patient for liposuction of the neck is the presence of surplus skin. There's no way to tighten excess skin including lasers and other types of therapeutic trauma. I don't think this excess skin is going to go away.

Although at 6 weeks post-op there is still time for improvement (skin contraction/tightening), you may require more of a formal neck lift to remedy this problem.  Depending upon direct physical exam at about the 12 week period, this may mean either direct skin excision under the chin or redraping the skin back and taut from an incision around the ears.  In my experience, if a surgical procedure does not work the first time (done correctly) then it probably will not work the second time around.  Glad to help... @drryanstanton 

The platysmal band in the central neck area may require Botox or Xeomin treatment to reduce its exposure on the midline neck after your liposuction. I would also advocate skin tightening laser. 

    An exam would be necessary to determine if possible but removal of skin at the level of the neck without facelift and necklift incisions may be possible.  Find a plastic surgeon with ELITE credentials who performs hundreds of facial procedures each year.  Kenneth Hughes, MD Los Angeles, CA

I am so sorry to hear about this.  It does appear that you have some loose skin and possible a scar band.  Unfortunately, the only definitive way to treat that excess would be to remove it.  This will result in an incision in the area of removal if it is done directly in the area.  The other way to potentially address it would be to perform a standard facelift incision and loosen the skin of the neck so that it can be re-draped (pulled) tight back toward the hairline and ear.

Seek several opinions from board certified plastic surgeons in your area.

It looks like you were over-resected and have residual skin. This may require a neck lift to treat the loose skin.

I certainly understand your concerns.  Liposuction has resulted in the removal of the fatty tissue support under the skin giving you your present countour which is just skin laxity.  I certainly agree that surigical excision would improve the result, but have to admit I would personally prefer to not place "necklift" incisions in a 30 year old.

Ultrasonic energy has been shown to contract skin to some extent when delivered over the skin surface (Ultherapy) or underneath the skin (Vaser). I have actually performed Vaser without fat removal to tighten skin and certainly Ultherapy could be considered as well.  I think the trade off here is the incision and would consider non-excisional treatment before resorting to a facelift or necklift incision at your young age.  Once the incisions are placed around your ears, they will be permanent.

Sorry to say the lipo has de bulkier the fat but the residual skin will NOT retract. You may need a neck lift procedure.
